While local authorities across the country have worked positively to encourage the development and use of the new, clean vehicle technologies, Islington council appears to be set to join the Mayor of Paris in treating all diesels – from the oldest and most polluting to the latest Euro 6 hybrids – as being universally bad.

Ricardo-AEA to develop a prototype Europe-wide platform for Air Quality and Smog Indices
22 January 2015Project awarded to Ricardo-AEA by the European Commission in order to develop a common method for presenting information on the levels of key pollutants affecting air quality throughout Europe.
Ricardo-AEA will be responsible for reviewing Member States’ existing air quality information systems and proposing a harmonised air quality index for all of Europe, including a prototype data platform to ensure that the information is easily accessible to the public.
The air quality index will be accompanied by a list of fuel-using products assessing their performance in relation to air quality. This ‘smog index’ for various products will include road passenger vehicles ... -
Green light for Brighton & Hove's low emission zone
20 January 2015Ricardo advanced ‘real-world’ vehicle emissions research helps inform city council and bus company strategy to improve air quality.
Brighton & Hove’s first low emission zone (LEZ), which covers Castle Square, North Street and Western Road as far as Palmeira Square, has begun. From this week, the majority of buses entering the city centre zone will meet minimum emission standards.
The aim of the zone is to improve air quality by reducing levels of nitrogen dioxide which in some areas are double the European and English legal limits. Although the LEZ area is small, almost 98% of bus movements in the city pass ... -
Managing Europe’s Transport Research and Innovation Portal
15 January 2015Ricardo-AEA has been awarded a major three-year contract to run the European Commission’s Transport Research and Innovation Portal (TRIP) – a public, online platform that shares up-to-date information on transport research projects and activities across Europe.
Over the next three years, Ricardo-AEA, together with its partners TRT Trasporti e Territorio, the Czech Transport Research Centre (CDV), Fraunhofer ISI, the University of the Aegean and TEPR, will update and verify TRIP’s existing content, adding in new findings from the latest transport research programmes.
