Ricardo is today announcing the award of an order from UTC Aerospace Systems for the manufacture of complex components used within the flap actuation system for the Airbus A320 family of aircraft.
UTC Aerospace Systems is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defence products. The company designs, manufactures and services systems and components, and provides integrated solutions for commercial, regional, business and military aircraft, helicopters and other platforms.
The contract with UTC Aerospace will involve Ricardo deploying its advanced manufacturing capabilities – already used extensively in the motorsports and high performance road vehicle sectors, as well for a number of aerospace clients – to supply complex geared, splined and prismatic machined components to drawings of A320 parts supplied by UTC Aerospace. As with most Ricardo high performance product manufacturing projects, these components require rigorous process adherence and the achievement of fine manufacturing tolerances.
“We are delighted to receive the first orders from UTC Aerospace to manufacture components for the popular Airbus A320 family of aircraft,” said Ricardo managing director of performance products, Mark Barge. “Our engineers have been working closely with UTC Aerospace to define the manufacturing approach and process controls for these complex items. This contract is one of the first aerospace projects that we have been permitted to announce, and bears testament to our ability to address some of the most complex manufacturing challenges for our customers. For clients across a range of industries, including performance motorsports, off-highway equipment and rail, we have taken precision manufactured parts from concept design and into production and beyond, and have repeatedly and consistently demonstrated the value we can add as a supplier and technical partner throughout the product lifecycle.”
